Learn More About NoticeAssist

NoticeAssist Basics

  • NoticeAssist is an AI-powered tool that helps class action litigators make class action notices that are clearer and easier to understand.

  • NoticeAssist uses generative AI, specifically a customized version of OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model (LLM), to analyze notices and suggest improvements. AI’s ability to read, analyze, and write text are the core of how NoticeAssist works.

When using NoticeAssist, or any generative AI tool, human review of AI outputs is always necessary.

  • NoticeAssist integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Word.

Once you’ve drafted a class notice, open NoticeAssist within MSWord, click “Enhance Readability,” and review its suggestions on how to make the notice clearer.

For more detailed information on how toownload and get started with NoticeAssist, download the Quick Start Guide, available at NoticeProject.org.

  • NoticeAssist is currently the only AI software purpose-built for improving class action notices. Built in close collaboration with the Impact Fund’s team of class action attorneys, it is designed to meet the real-world needs of lawyers.

With seamless integration into Microsoft Word, NoticeAssist offers a smoother document editing experience than other AI tools.

  • Yes. NoticeAssist can remain open while users review comments and redlines, making it easy to integrate into your revision process.

  • No. NoticeAssist is designed to assist, not replace, the human element of writing.

NoticeAssist can only provide suggestions for how to make class action notices clearer – it does not know the requirements of Rule 23.

If you’re struggling with the first draft of your class action notice, consider using one of our free class action notice templates.

Security and Privacy

  • NoticeAssist prioritizes security and privacy.

Powered by GPT-4 and available through the Microsoft add-in app store, we ensure that only essential Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is collected during profile setup, including your email address, job title, professional biography, and area of specialization. Additionally, we do not integrate any third-party tracking services such as Google Analytics or MixPanel. In short, your data is kept secure, and we avoid unnecessary tracking.

  • No. When using NoticeAssist, no user data is shared, meaning that no one other than you can see the contents of your notice.

  • No. NoticeAssist never shares user data with OpenAI, or anyone else.

  • No. NoticeAssist works like redlining, offering suggestions you can accept, edit, or reject. You are in complete control of every change.

System and Support

  • NoticeAssist requires the latest version of Microsoft Word to function properly.

NoticeAssist functions on both P.C. and Mac.

  • Yes, NoticeAssist can review and provide suggestions for text in other languages.

However, it was primarily designed for use in English. If you choose to use it for other languages, we recommend involving a professional translator in the process to ensure accuracy.

Why Did the Impact Fund Create NoticeAssist?

Former Impact Fund Executive Director Jocelyn Larkin, creator of the Notice Project.

In 2015, the Impact Fund ran a focus group to understand why people don’t share our passion for class actions – and we learned that people strongly dislike class notices.

So, Jocelyn Larkin launched the Notice Project to champion class action notices that are easier for class members to read and understand.

In 2019, Alex Lara was hired to the Impact Fund as a product manager. Alex set out to create class action notice templates that would improve the visuals of notices, and a software tool that would improve the clarity of notice language.

When generative AI and ChatGPT rapidly entered the public consciousness, Alex realized that AI has incredible potential to help lawyers clarify and simplify notice language.

This was the inception of NoticeAssist.

NoticeAssist is a tool designed to empower lawyers to make class action notices more effective.

NoticeAssist, our templates, and the Notice Project exist to make it easier for all the laypeople people involved in class actions to understand their rights. We hope that by improving class action notices, we can improve access to justice in class action lawsuits.
